World Environment Day puts Biodiversity in the Spotlight
Biodiversity is the 2020 World Environment Day theme and at Innahura we have a lot of that! The Maldives is synonymous with rich and varied marine life and our resort is surrounded by biologically diverse reefs where divers and snorkellers can get a glimpse of how incredible nature is.
At first glance the impression is a reef full of colourful fish – huge shoals of snappers, clouds of fusiliers darting around, oriental sweetlips hanging in groups and delicate bannerfish to name but a few. Tiny critters such as nudibranches and shrimps are there for all those who move slowly enough to really see the detail of the reef. The super observant can find nature’s camouflage masters – the weird looking but extremely photogenic frogfish and leaf fish, scorpionfish with eyes that sparkle like sequins and the grumpy looking stonefish. At the other end of the spectrum there are the huge, bright green napoleon wrasse, stingrays lying on the bottom, squadrons of eagle rays treating onlookers to spectacular fly pasts, turtles nibbling on the reef, sharks cruising around and the majestic manta rays. All leave a lasting impression on any who experience the spectacle that is the biodiversity around Innahura.
Here at Innahura we are proud of our environment and want to do all we can to protect it, that’s why we place such importance on the sustainability of our operations. Our solar huts generate hot water for all the rooms, an in-house desalination and water bottling plant provides our water without the need for harmful, single-use plastic bottles, we minimise the use of plastics in all areas, use ocean-friendly bathroom amenities, adhere to sustainable diving and snorkelling practices and support local communities.
If you have images of your encounters with nature at Innahura and would like to share them with us, please submit them to our Guest Gallery.
