Turtle Rock – A Haven for Hawksbill Turtles
If you will be visiting Innahura Maldives and are a snorkeller or scuba diver who wants to see turtles, there’s good news – we have a fabulous reef called Turtle Rock! The team at Prodivers, the dive center at our resort, arrange regular excursions to this fantastic reef in order that our guests can see the resident sea turtle population.
As turtles go about their business with about zero consideration for our guests’ whereabouts, we obviously can’t guarantee sightings, but it’s rare that they are not seen there, and our record so far is a whopping 48 hawksbill turtles within a single dive! Even without turtles around the reef is still great: schools of batfish, snappers, blacktip reef sharks, octopus, grey reef sharks, nurse sharks, eagle rays, tuna, jackfish and more.
Turtle Rock is easily accessible by boat from the resort and is suitable for certified and also Discover Scuba Diving and course divers, and snorkellers of any experience. If you would love to see the turtles but have never dived or snorkelled before, Innahura is the perfect place to change that! We offer a Beginners Snorkelling Course as well as the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program, as well as the usual certification courses, all bookable on Innahura’s App before arrival or even when you get here.
Lhaviyani Atoll is a haven for sea turtles, with the largest population of green sea turtles in the Maldives residing at the reefs around our sister property, Kuredu Resort Maldives. Hopes are high that perhaps with continued discoveries and research, reefs around our resort might be proclaimed the country’s best place to swim with hawksbills – flippers crossed!
