Enjoy Manta Season in the Maldives
During manta season in Lhaviyani Atoll, this area of the Maldives becomes a magnet for not only the majestic manta rays but also for divers and snorkellers hoping to see them. Those of you that will be staying with us at Innahura Maldives Resort and have swimming with mantas on your bucket list, should spend as much time in the ocean as possible! Join as many snorkel excursions or dive trips whilst as you can – the more time spent in the water, the higher your chances of realising your dream.
Snorkellers will love the special Manta Search Boat that runs during the manta season at times when sightings have been made – nothing beats the excitement as you make your way to the ‘Manta Point’ at Fushivaru. This trip allows you to learn about these magnificent creatures whilst on your way to admire their beauty. Learning more about these elegant animals only adds to the experience. Discover more about the research project that Prodivers is involved in, how to identify individual manta rays and additional interesting facts about their life cycles, feeding habits and the dangers that they face in today’s world. If you have never snorkelled before but would love to see mantas and all the other incredible marine creatures on our reefs, be sure to visit the dive centre at the start of your stay. The friendly and patient team at Prodivers can help you gain the snorkelling skills you need to enable you to join the boats.
Divers get to see the mantas from a different perspective, positioned close to the cleaning stations at Fushivaru Thila they get a front row seat to what can be the best show in the world. If you’re not yet a diver but don’t want to miss this amazing opportunity, it’s never too late to learn! If you’re determined to dive with the mantas, we recommend you book the PADI Open Water Diver course and complete it early in your holiday – the eLearning option means you can do all the theory at home in your own time so won’t waste any of your time at Innahura studying or learning in a classroom.
The Manta Trust have put together a very useful guide about how to safely swim with mantas without posing a threat to their natural behaviour – please do follow their guidelines during your manta encounters.
Happy Manta searching!
