Innahura Smiles: Ludwig, Dive Centre Manager
Whether it be snorkelling among schools of colourful reef fish, taking your first breath underwater during a diving course or experiencing shark and ray action in Lhaviyani Atoll’s renowned channels, Innahura’s dive centre has you covered! Leading the Prodivers team of passionate, multilingual instructors is Ludwig Hofmann, whose Maldives’ experience, bright personality and ‘nothing is too much hassle’ attitude make him a perfect fit for Innahura.
Ludwig, a.k.a. Ludo, first joined the Prodivers’ team as a snorkel guide at Kuredu in 2008 and has been, despite his break in between at home in South Africa, a much loved member of the Prodivers’ family ever since. Ludo completed his instructor course in 2013, allowing not only snorkellers but also divers to learn from him and to be shown all Maldives’ underwater highlights, safely and in a fun, relaxed manner. When you meet him, you’ll know why we’re pleased he accepted the invitation to head Innahura’s dive centre!
Ludwig still vividly remembers his two most epic dives in Lhaviyani Atoll: ‘We were crossing the KFFC-The Peak channel on underwater scooters – I’m a big fan of these fun toys for boys – when a number of chubby silvertip sharks came to check us out, as well as lemon sharks and a whopping 67 mobula rays. On another occasion, at Fushivaru Kandu, a massive sailfish decided to just hang around us for 15 minutes.’
‘All of my favourite Lhaviyani Atoll dive sites can be reached from Innahura too, so I’m excited to be able to keep visiting them, but perhaps I look forward even more to dozens of new underwater islands (we call them giri and thila) around Innahura that no one has really dived before. There are 16 new corners that our other dive centres don’t dive as they’re too far, a beautiful, pristine house reef that we’ll go to every day, a total of 32 kilometres of unexplored outreefs… I think this exploration element alone is worth travelling to Innahura for.’
